Dr Hamied Haroon: research associate

Phizzi professionals give an insight into pathways from physics. Dr Hamied Haroon is a research associate.

Dr Hamied Haroon is a Research Associate in Biomedical Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). He is an active campaigner for the rights of staff with disabilities and Chair of the National Association of Disabled Staff Networks (NADSN), which has become a hub for people with disabilities working in universities and other organisations across the UK.

“We cannot underestimate what science and engineering have contributed to our lives. For me, as a disabled person, science and engineering have given me so much independence. Science strengthens my faith and there is no conflict between the two. The Quran tells us to go and discover, to think about things, and that is exactly what science allows us to do.”

Hamied is a member of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM): “This is a global community of scientists, crossing the boundaries of nationalities, of religion and of so many other identities. It brings us together for a common purpose.”
