Rain Erosion Testing
ORE Catapult
Rain Erosion Testing of a Protective Coating for Wind Turbine Blades
The surfaces of wind turbine blades can be eroded by the weather, reducing the life of the blades and causing turbines to be shut down for repairs. In this project, you will help test new coating materials to help protect wind turbine blades, especially their leading edges. This could reduce how often turbines need to be shut down and repaired.
What is the project:
The surfaces of wind turbine blades can be eroded by the weather, reducing the life of the blades and causing turbines to be shut down for repairs.
In this project, you will research materials and help test new coating materials to protect wind turbine blades, especially their leading edges.
How this project is useful:
Developing a rain erosion resistant coating can reduce the degradation of the leading-edge of the wind turbine blades, reducing how often turbines need to be shut down and repaired.
Project outcome:
- Write a report on your method, test results, and analysis
- Present your findings
