Levelling Wind Turbines

Galliford Try

Levelling Turbine Anchoring Systems

What is the project:

When wind turbines are built they are anchored into concrete foundations. How level the anchor is set within the concrete determines how much stress is applied to the turbine. Too much stress, or misplaced stress, results in long and costly repairs.
In this project, you will investigate how levelling of the anchoring systems is achieved during the concrete casting. You will examine techniques to verify and correct the flatness and level of the anchor system.

How this project is useful:

By reviewing the levelling procedures and checking their accuracy, you will support precise construction and quality assurance of renewable projects.

Project outcome:

  • Document your observations and examinations of tolerances
  • Written report explaining how levelling accuracy supports structural integrity

Project type:

Practical Investigation

Key skills:

  • Data analysis
