Applying New Digital Technology to Offshore Wind Farm Maintenance

Applying New Digital Technology to Offshore Wind Farm Maintenance

As SSE Renewables plans to build new wind energy sites while also extending the life of its existing ones, we needs someone to identify opportunities to use new digital technologies.

Aims:

This project aims to deliver a review of how an offshore wind farm operates, and how digital technologies could make it operate better. Areas will include:

  • Wind farm data analysis
  • Asset monitoring and remote operations activities
  • Application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in analysis
  • Opportunities to move key areas further into predictive maintenance, rather than use time-based measures
  • Application and scope of “digital twins”

To do this you will:

  • Interview with Operations and Maintenance staff
  • Research into disruptive technologies and their applications
  • Collaboration with various SSE Renewables teams including the Technology team
  • Local site visits to key suppliers

Key skills and interests

  • Data analysis
  • Communication
