Investigating the Sustainable Redevelopment of Port, Operations and Maintenance Facilities

Investigating the Sustainable Redevelopment of Port, Operations and Maintenance Facilities

The East of England is a hugely important region in the rapidly growing offshore wind sector. One of these projects is the Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone (NOWZone), which upon completion, will provide enough power for over 4 million UK homes.

To provide the operations and maintenance (O&M) for the NOW Zone, a new state of the art facility is to be constructed in Great Yarmouth. Significant redevelopment has been taking place here, to make way for new clean energy infrastructure, but how green and sustainable are the new facilities that are being constructed?

Aims:

You will investigate the environmental impact of the new facilities, liaising with colleagues within the RWE team and external stakeholders in Great Yarmouth Borough Council and the wider sector. You will explore the following:

  • Are we future-proofing the development of our regional ports?
  • Are their facilities being built and operated in the most sustainable ways?
  • What do other newly built O&M facilities look like, and how are they maximising their sustainability?

You will present your findings of the project to members of the Norfolk Zone team, and potentially at events such as the East Wind and EEEGR conferences. You will also write a report, using the CREST award criteria as framework.
