Investigating AI tools to detect hazardous rocks in survey data for wind farm projects
Investigating AI tools to detect hazardous rocks in survey data for wind farm projects
Building larger offshore wind farms requires gathering more survey data. As a result there is a need for finding reliable automated methods for interpreting offshore survey data more quickly and cheaply.
Different software packages are available to automatically detect objects from survey data using AI (machine learning), but how good they are is not well known, so surveys are still done manually, which is expensive and time-consuming.
Aims:
To study the automatic detection abilities of different software using test data. You will then report and present what you find out and how we can use it.
To do this you will:
You will be guided through some sonar survey data and what it shows. You will then learn how to use the different software packages you will be studying.
You will then complete a desk top study using the available data and the machine learning abilities of software packages. Working within an office environment would provide an insight into working life within the industry as well as offering expertise on hand for the duration of the project.
This is a team project.
