Powering an Offshore Platform with Renewable Energy

ODE Asset Management Ltd are working to reduce their carbon footprint and eventually become Net Zero. To aid with this, they are looking to replace or supplement the existing diesel powered power generation on an offshore gas platform with a renewable energy solution (typical power consumption is around 115kW when manned and 57kW when unmanned). A similar project was undertaken some time ago, but will need to be updated to include some of the latest renewable energy technology.

During this internship, you will conduct research into potential renewable energy sources. You will be based in a busy office environment where you will be able to interact with other staff, including electrical and mechanical engineers and with our environmental Technical Authority. There is also an opportunity to use 3D models of the platform to inform the research. You will propose renewable energy sources for the offshore gas platform and rate them using a pre-existing scoring system.

Our services include providing boats, helicopters and people to carry out the work offshore. In our onshore office we carry out engineering design, maintenance, fault finding and repair (electrical, mechanical, instrumentation) as well as all support functions including safety, logistics, planning, finance.
