Energy Transition – Where Could I Work in East Anglian Energy

Energy Transition – Where Could I Work in East Anglian Energy

In 2024 we asked our intern to undertake research into energy transition to act as a valuable tool for Nu-Gen Energy Services to gain critical market insight and help with strategic planning. This was valuable and has contributed to positioning the business for a launch in Summer 2025.

We are very keen to work with the local supply chain and wish to understand from a young person’s perspective how the STEM subjects studied at college (science – with a focus on physics; technology; engineering and maths) relate to real jobs in the energy industry. We also want to understand how these subjects might help entry into the rail industry where there are many parallels. Underpinning both is a requirement to work in the safest manner possible.

The offshore wind industry will rely on the cables to transmit the electricity generated from turbines in the water to substations on land and distributed to businesses and homes. Your project will be to create a guide to help communicate how your college skills could be used in the world of work associated with the onshore civil engineering tasks required.

  • Identifying job/task opportunities within the energy and rail sectors in East Anglia.
  • Assess tasks related to measuring and monitoring environmental impact:
    • Evaluate the environmental implications of the energy transition and potential strategies for mitigating negative effects.
    • Who would undertake this work.
    • What is the career path?

To do this you will:

You will create a detailed report and presentation during the internship. You will find the information through desk-based research and data collection from government reports, industry publications, and academic sources, analysing data, and collaborating & communicating with the Nu-Gen Energy team to gather insights and share findings.
