ERM Ecological and Socio Economic Impact Catalogue

Cataloguing the Ecological and Socio-Economic Impact of Offshore Wind

Cataloguing the Ecological and Socio-Economic Impact of Offshore Wind

Offshore wind energy is going to be one of the main energy sources that will allow Europe to meet its emissions reduction targets. If we are to build windfarms offshore, we need to know what they will do to the environment, community and economy so we don’t create more problems than we solve.

Aims:

The project aims to review and collate all the relevant ecological and economic effects to inform the planning of Offshore Windfarms.

The intention is to assess these effects over the entire lifecycle: development, construction, operation and decommissioning. This information will provide guidance to policy-makers and stakeholders on how to plan future projects.

Though these effects been studied, much of the information is recorded in a scattered way, so we need to summarize the information into a centralized database.

To do this you will

  • Desk based review of existing data
  • Create libraries / databases of these data
  • Produce a report and poster of your findings
