Clarksons Port Services

Research the types of offshore transport used in servicing wind farms

Servicing Offshore Wind Farms in the Southern North Sea

Clarksons Port Services are an integrated logistics provider and the ever changing landscape of projects requires the company to understand all logistics opportunities in order to support projects. This project aims to review the currently used methods of transport for supporting offshore wind projects and research the requirements for a new logistics base to service these projects. Until recently, crew transfer vessels (CTVs) have been the most popular mode of transport supporting offshore wind projects. Projects are now being built further offshore so we need to re-evaluate transportation methods.

This project will provide the student with unique access to information that needs to be considered in supporting offshore logistics. During the project, you will conduct a desktop study to research and analyse modes of transport to support operational offshore wind farms in Southern North Sea (SNS). There may also be a chance to visit offshore wind ports and vessels. You should consider:

  • What modes of transport are used in offshore wind projects
  • The various types of offshore transport used during different stages of the windfarm
  • An understanding of windfarms & port locations

Using Clarksons in-house information and technology, alongside traditional online research websites, and interacting with the Clarksons team, you should provide a report on your findings and recommendations for the best mode of transport and what the offshore logistics base requires to support this.
