Northumberland County Council
Investigate the effectiveness Northumberland County Council installing rooftop solar panels
Solar Energy Mapping
Northumberland County Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and has an ambition for the county of Northumberland to be net-zero by 2040.
The aim of this project is to investigate how Northumberland County Council could use solar energy to decrease their carbon footprint. The intern will map the rooftops of buildings owned by the council. With this data, they will then analyse the potential for electricity generation using solar panels by considering the shape, size, and orientation of rooves as well as different types of solar panels available. The intern will also report on the estimated impact that solar panels will have on building energy use and associated emissions.
The intern will present their findings as a report to be shared with the county council.
