From East Coast to Offshore Energy

Wood Plc is a company that offers consultation, asset management and project planning to companies within and beyond the energy sector. As an ambitious company we are keen to take on apprentices to help train and develop a new generation of workers in the offshore industry.

In this project you will develop a road map for companies wanting to deliver successful apprenticeships. You would consider what can inspire companies to take on apprentices, how can employers enthuse and energise students to take up the challenge of working in the offshore industry and what ways can we ensure that industry creates an accurate and compelling picture of the future of offshore industry. To do this you would develop an understanding of the needs of all the stakeholders, including potential apprentices, colleges and schools, potential employers, the wider industry, training boards, and government levy schemes and payments.

The intern will be given a grounding in these different stakeholders and existing apprenticeship programmes. They will then build on this through both online and in person research, surveys, and interviews of some of these stakeholders. You will investigate examples of successful apprentice schemes and what has contributed to their successes, and the best ways for how apprenticeships can be structured and delivered. You will write up your research findings and any conclusions and suggestions for employers and other stakeholders for how to deliver successful apprenticeships.
