James de Winter

Early career & research

In his work with the Trust, James has a particular focus on physics teachers during their training and early careers. He advises the Trust on the Early Career Teacher Development programme and provides mentoring and support for those in the first five years of their teaching, and those undertaking education research projects with the Trust.

Previously a secondary school physics teacher, James has worked for many years at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge where he leads the Secondary Physics PGCE course, also teaching on the Primary PGCE and MEd courses. He is a member of the Physics Education Research group at the University of Uppsala, Sweden, researching the early career development of physics teachers. James has written a variety of materials for students and teachers in both the primary and secondary phase.
