Technician CPD day

Technicians enjoyed a CPD day at Altrincham Grammar School for Girls.

Published: 19 July 2022

Earlier this month, secondary school science technicians gathered at Altrincham Grammar School for Girls for a Technician Day, organised by Mike Roberts – physics technician at the school.

These CPD events were previously held as part of the Ogden Trafford Partnership in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and have now been re-launched, post-pandemic, as the partnership continues in its legacy phase.

The programme for the day allowed delegates to share ideas, advice and expertise, and there were superb tips and discussions – using heat shrink to protect neodymium magnets from shattering; seeing if auto-ranging digital multi-meters might be a successful option for many GCSE classes. In the afternoon session, the technicians took part in a ‘make and take’ – dextrous soldering produced a tidy potential divider circuit box for diode characteristics.

Melissa Lord, Ogden Regional Rep for the north-west, attended the day: “It was lovely to welcome new schools as well as old partnership schools, showing that even in the legacy phase, Ogden support for physics in schools can grow.”
