Are you a physics undergraduate thinking about going into teaching? Applications are now open for the 2020 Ogden Teach Physics programme. The deadline for applications is Monday 3 February.
Entering its tenth year, Teach Physics provides undergraduates with a funded four- to five-week placement in school science departments, allowing students to gain an intensive experience of teaching physics and of broader school life.
“I did a Teach Physics internship in 2017 and I loved it! It cemented my desire to teach physics at secondary school and I’d highly recommend this internship programme. When it came to designing and executing my own lessons I had a lot of independence but received incredible support when I needed it. I learned a lot from the feedback and discussions with teachers and it very much confirmed my desire to teach. All in all, I couldn’t imagine a better introduction to teaching.”
Teach Physics intern 2017
Teach Physics interns are supported and mentored by experienced teachers; they observe and participate in school science lessons and extra-curricular activities. In addition, they plan and deliver their own lessons, give presentations on the varied careers possible with a physics degree, and share their experiences of university life. The interns are encouraged to join in with all aspects of teaching, including the development of resources that can be used for science teaching and activities at the school once the placements are over.
