The Ogden Lewisham Partnership concluded another productive partnership year with a super summer science event. One hundred and seventy children from across the partnership primary schools arrived at Bonus Pastor Catholic College for a day of science investigations and hands-on STEM activities, including water rocket launches, science busking and giant bubble making.
The Bonus Pastor science team were enthusiastically aided by 40 Year 8 Bonus Pastor students who served as STEM helpers for the day, providing valuable support, knowledge and guidance to the primary school students.
“Thank you so much for a fabulous day. The children loved it!”

“What a wonderful experience for so many primary pupils,” says Clare Warren regional rep for the Ogden Trust who joined the day and also ran drop-in sessions on working scientifically for the primary science co-ordinators and teaching staff. “It was a privilege to see the delight on the children’s faces as they blew such huge bubbles and launched their rockets. The students from Bonus Pastor were exemplary science ambassadors and played an essential role in organising, instructing and enthusing the visitors. Overall, a great day out for all of us. Many thanks to Everton for all his commitment and enthusiasm in running the partnership and in particular for organising such a superb event.”
“The event was a great success and helped to foster a love of STEM among the primary school students,” added partnership co-ordinator Everton McClymont. “It also provided an opportunity for the Bonus Pastor students to share their knowledge and skills with their younger peers.
“The Ogden partnership between Bonus Pastor Catholic College and the six local primary schools is now in its third year,” explains Everton. “It has been instrumental in helping to raise the profile of STEM education in the local community and is hopefully inspiring many young people to pursue careers in STEM-related fields.”

A watermelon challenge for the Year 8 helpers provided a fun and competitive end to the day.
