Purposeful partnerships

Working with PSTT to bring Phizzi resources to Priority Area Schools.

Published: 10 March 2025

The Ogden Phizzi KS2 CPD is central to our partnership programme, equipping teachers with the skills and resources to deliver purposeful practical investigations that support the physics topics in the primary curriculum and captivate young learners.

This year, in partnership with the Primary Science Teaching Trust (PSTT), we have donated sets of our Phizzi resources and teacher handbooks to 30 schools in the PSTT Priority Areas. The resource boxes and books will enable the schools to deliver more practical learning for the topics of Electricity and Earth & Space. Each box includes resources for whole class investigations which are explored and explained in the teacher handbook, together with teaching points and approaches to inform classroom practice.

“Being able to provide new relevant resources for the Priority Area schools has been transformational for the pupils and staff. Having equipment which encourages curiosity has coaxed reluctant learners through the school gates and into lessons,” explains Priority Areas Mentor, Kulvinder Johal.

“The resources have energised the staff and given them the confidence and ability to plan engaging practical lessons which support pupil learning and are very much tied to the science national curriculum,” she continues. “These schools have struggled with trying to deliver practical lessons to challenging pupils and these resources are making such a difference. Staff are excited, smiling and keen to plan and teach science.”

“The energy stick that came inside one of the boxes has already got one of our more reluctant children through the school gates this morning so already working wonders.”

“PSTT is at the forefront of primary science teaching, and we are delighted to share our Phizzi resources, investigations and teaching points with schools in their Priority Areas. The resources and teacher handbook will give children access to purposeful hand-on investigations, encouraging them to work scientifically and to think like a scientist,” says Ogden Trust Chief Executive Clare Harvey.

“We know that PSTT research shows that children’s interest in and identity with science is shaped before they leave primary, and we hope that these Phizzi resources will help to inspire curiosity and encourage the children at these schools to take physics further.”

“The children were so excited using the equipment and were amazed that they were able to make different noises, use switches to create their own light and make the fan move … They were able to explain to other children and become the experts about how to use the equipment.”
