Since our Primary Physics Professional Learning (P3L) CPD was launched in 2017, more than 1,500 teachers, trainee teachers, teaching assistants and primary science leaders have taken part, gaining invaluable professional development in delivering the primary science curriculum. In 2020, our P3L programme was postponed with the onset of COVID but we are delighted to announce its return.

“Our first P3L for 2022 will be taking place at King Edward’s School, Birmingham,” explains Ogden Teaching and Learning Lead, Jackie Flaherty. “Our specialist physics practitioners will be back, delivering hands-on workshops and bringing science to life with some amazing practical activities, resources and ideas for how physics can be taught in the primary classroom.”
“The enthusiasm from people taking part in our P3L days has always been amazing,” continues Jackie. “They really appreciate that the course is devised and presented by teachers for teachers. Feedback has shown that they are able to implement the ideas and use the resources in their classrooms immediately on their return to school.”
“Wow factor in spades!! So many ideas but useful.”

Science is often not taught by a specialist teacher at primary level and developing teacher skills and confidence is an important factor in getting children to engage with the subject and to believe they can be scientists.
The P3L CPD programme has been designed to enthuse and excite primary teachers, as well as equip them with subject knowledge and ideas for delivering hands-on science in the classroom. Practical demonstrations, problem solving activities and enquiries support primary teachers in the development of working scientifically skills across all year groups. Although science is at the heart of the P3L programme, English, maths and the broader curriculum run throughout the sessions.
Delegates leave the P3L days with newfound knowledge and confidence, as well as numerous resources and ideas that can be brought immediately into the classroom.
“Informative and inspiring to help children to learn to love science through practicals.”
P3L teacher feedback“Lots of great ideas for use in the classroom. Interactive, fun, relevant and thought provoking.”
