Making physics matter

Learn more about the Trust and our programmes.

Published: 3 July 2024

The Ogden Trust has supported hundreds of individuals with scholarships and bursaries in our 25-year history and has gone on to support many thousands more through our university outreach and school partnership programmes. Our physics support for teachers continues to amplify our impact as we empower and enable them to best educate the next generation.

As we celebrate our 25 year anniversary – reflecting on what has been achieved and looking forward to what still needs to be done as we work to make broader, deeper and more sustainable changes in physics education – we have produced a short video that gives an insight into our current programmes.

Enhance your physics teaching and learning

Central to our current programmes is a portfolio of free physics professional development, which helps schools to build and maintain a thriving science department with teachers who are confident in delivering engaging and inspiring classroom physics and the physical processes from Early Years through the to Key Stage 4. Our fully funded Early Career programme provides a community of support, building subject knowledge, pedagogy and career lasting confidence in physics for those just starting out; whilst our free subject knowledge CPD can upskill teachers with the knowledge and confidence they need to deliver inspiring classroom physics. Our school partnerships help teachers to build a supportive local network with funding for enrichment and free CPD.

Why not join our community and let your teachers access best practice ideas, resources and support for physics teaching?

“The Ogden funding and support is enabling us to develop strong links between physics teachers across Manchester and create a cause that is rooted in making physics matter to our young people. It has been inspiring to share a passion for physics and speak to teachers with a range of experiences and backgrounds. I feel excited for what this partnership can achieve and know we will be able to make a difference to the next generation of physicists.”
Dan Walker, Head of Science, Didsbury High School

The Early Career programme has been amazing! I sing the praises of the Ogden Trust all the time! I went from a point of properly hating the subject to now just have no fear about teaching physics; I really enjoy it! I find it fascinating and interesting and that comes through when I am teaching.
