Teacher Network – Teach Physics intern: Molly Rhodes

When I was at the University of Nottingham, I soon realised that I wanted to be a teacher. In 2018, I applied for a place on the Ogden Teach Physics internship scheme and was placed at Trinity School in Nottingham.

I supervised and taught in several different classes and saw the many ways the teachers interacted with the different characters and abilities within the classroom.

I observed one teacher over the five weeks, and I will forever be convinced that this teacher is a magician. Teaching is about controlling and engaging students; while I’ve seen many excellent examples through this placement and as a student, I have never seen anybody as good as this teacher. Some of the students she taught could be chaotic, disruptive, challenging and lacked motivation, but she maintained interest and kept them disciplined and quiet in such an artful way. This teacher’s quick thinking and calm attitude in the face of disruption are attributes which come with practice and confidence. I am grateful to have seen her teach and I hope in time I can emulate this in years to come. This placement has made me more excited to begin my teacher training.
