South Devon & Torbay Partnership

11 January 2018

The South Devon & Torbay Partnership was established in 2014. We aim to be a really collaborative partnership with each school in the group leading one event each year which pupils from the other schools are then invited to attend. Each school in the partnership also develops its own in-house project designed to increase engagement in physics within the school – ideas and best practice are shared within the group.

In our school, the Kingsbridge Academy (hub school for the partnership), we have been taking part in a practical hands-on Girls into Physics project aimed at encouraging girls to study the subject to a higher level; we have 11 female students taking A-level physics this year, a record for the school.

After attending the West Country Wonder Women event – a community and business event held at Kingsbridge to celebrate the diverse range of female talent and expertise living, working and from the South West – there have already been a number of spin-offs, including students getting apprenticeships and the Girls into Physics group visiting the Jet Engine test facility at Rolls Royce.

These collaborative events would not be possible without the support and funding from The Ogden Trust. The partnership programme enables a large number of students to experience stimulating and innovative physics-based activities which, without the support of The Ogden Trust, would not be possible.
