Ogden Teacher Fellow

Justin began studying Theoretical Physics and Applied Mathematics at the University of Birmingham in 2000. He graduated four years later with a 1st class joint honours MSci degree and migrated to Cambridge to work on his PhD at the Cavendish Laboratory. During his time at Cambridge he followed in the footsteps of J.J. Thomson and captained the Cavendish cricket team to cup glory. Working as a PDRA and supervising first year undergraduates, he caught the teaching bug and in 2012 he began his PGCE at Hughes Hall, where he met Tim Simmons and was welcomed into the Ogden family.

In 2013 Justin moved to East London and focused his teaching on KS5 physics at the London Academy of Excellence, where he hosted the East London cohort of schools in the IOP Capital Physics project. He also hosted numerous visits from KS4 schools and delivered sessions designed to inspire further study of physics at A-level and beyond.

In 2015 Justin made the short hop to Seven Kings High School, where he continues his work with the IOP and his wider outreach goals, in particular increasing the uptake of A-level physics by girls. He is also involved in the delivery of a year long course of free CPD for non-physics specialist teachers at KS4.
