Physics Teaching Fellowships
The Ogden Trust sponsors postgraduate, PhD and post-doctoral students wishing to become physics schoolteachers by funding training placements in secondary schools. See also "PGCE Physics Scholarships". These vary in terms of length of commitment and are available for up to 40 working days. The maximum grant available is £2,600 based on a rate of £65 per day. The Fellowships can be carried out full-time or on a part-time basis while research or other work is still being undertaken, and travel expenses are normally available. These are separate from the INSPIRE scheme at Imperial College also funded by The Ogden Trust but which is a full-time scheme for a full academic year.
Applicants must be entering physics teacher training in the academic year that follows the Fellowship, and intend to teach in the English state secondary school system.
The following candidates are eligible to apply:
1) candidates who have successfully completed an Ogden undergraduate "Teach Physics" internship
2) candidates who have successfully completed a school-based module as part of their undergraduate physics degree
3) candidates nominated by the Ogden University Science Officers and the school-based Ogden Teacher Fellows
4) career changers who are considering physics teaching and have spent at least five years since graduation in research, industry, finance, business, the military or the civil service.
