"Quantum Mechanics, Relativity and the Strange World of Taxi Journeys"
The lecture ‘Quantum Mechanics, Relativity and the Strange
World of Taxi Journeys’ by Hannah Davies is designed to give a brief overview
of quantum mechanics and special relativity, under the guise of a very unusual
taxi journey. This was an Ogden Trust funded summer project within the
Cavendish Laboratory supervised by Professor Bill Proud and Dr Lisa
Jardine-Wright.
The concepts are described using demonstrations, computer animations
and models. It is aimed at a secondary school audience, but is equally suited
to a public audience. The talk lasts approximately one hour but can be
shortened if necessary.
