Travel Grants
“The world is a book, and those who do not travel only read one page…” St. Augustine
Travel Grants are ONLY available to current and past Ogden Scholars, the scheme is NOT open for general applications.
The Ogden Trust makes a limited number of travel grants each year to past and present students who wish to undertake interesting, educational and worthwhile projects or expeditions. The Trust has no strict criteria for making awards, and would encourage applications for “academic” trips, particularly with a science focus, as well as more general travel. Examples of projects that The Trust would consider for awards include exchanges, studying abroad, school trips, research trips, gap year / year abroad travel etc. Accounts of previous recipients of Ogden Travel Awards can be read below:
Ross Cowley – Harvard University Summer School

Ross Cowley, an Ogden Undergraduate Science Scholar at Warwick University studying Physics, took an eight week summer course at Harvard University in Summer 2007. Harvard is widely recognised as being the best university in the world and both Sir Peter Ogden, founder and chairman of The Ogden Trust, and Cameron Ogden, his son and trustee of The Ogden Trust, studied there. Ross took a course in "Financial modelling, Capital Acquisition and Investment Banking", and felt his experiences were very worthwhile and were “priceless” in helping him to secure a job at Credit Suisse, which begins after he has completed his final year of studies. A more detailed account of Ross' trip can be found in our archive section.
Lissie Muller Gap year in Tanzania

Lissie Muller spent ten months living and working in Tanzania during a gap year between leaving school and university. Amongst many other things Lissie worked with disabled people on a charity project producing crafts, learnt Kiswahili, and helped to illustrate a book. A more detailed account of Lissies time in Tanzania can be found in our archive section.
The Jubilee Sailing Trust and British Schools Exploring Society

The Ogden Trust also makes annual awards in conjunction with the The British Schools Exploring Society and Nicholas Heiney Sailing Scholarships to undertake the Jubilee Sailing Trust Tall Ships programme . The Jubilee Sailing Trust's Sea Leadership programme aims to promote the integration of people of all physical abilities through the challenge and adventure of tall ship sailing through short voyages around northern Europe on tall ships staffed by people of all physical abilities. The British Schools Exploring Society run summer expeditions to remote wilderness areas which combine scientific research with exploration and adventure. Please click the links for more details of the schemes and how to apply.
Awards will usually be in the region of £400, but in exceptional cases may be up to the value of £1500. Applications are judged both on merit AND financial need. Full Terms and Conditions of the award can be read here.
