Cumbrian Physicists of the Year
The University of Lancaster hosted the 2011 Cumbrian Physicists of the Year Awards on the evening of 12 July. The students, together with 39 parents and teachers, were invited to attend a departmental tour followed by a buffet and the award ceremony. Professor Robin Tucker gave the keynote talk on his career in Physics followed by postgraduate student Cherry Canovan who gave a "from the heart" talk on why she had changed her career from journalism to Physics. Barbara Grundy, The Ogden Trust's North West consultant, spoke of the importance of Physics and how the Trust can support the Cumbrian Physicists, before awarding the certificates and £25 book tokens. The event was attended by thirteen Year 12 students who had been put forward by the schools and colleges in the area who teach A-level Physics.
