Coventry & Warwickshire Schools Physicists of the Year Awards
On Monday 13th June 2011, twenty talented sixth-form physicists were invited to the University of Warwick Physics Department to celebrate and reward their hard work and achievement.
The Coventry and Warwickshire schools each nominated their best student, who received an award, watched by their proud families and teachers. The prizes were sponsored by The Ogden Trust and Dr Wai Yi Feng explained the benefits of being connected to The Ogden Trust.
The evening started with a buffet and the opportunity to meet academic members of staff from the department and also to see some demonstrations of physics principles in action. The keynote lecture was given by Professor Tony Arber, from the department's Centre for Fusion, Space and Astrophysics, who is also Admissions Tutor for undergraduate physics degrees.
Head of the Physics Department, Professor Robin Ball presented the students with their certificates and a £25 book token. Professional photographs were taken of each student arriving with their family, and on receipt of their certificate these were presented to the students as a memento of the evening.

Ally Caldecote (pictured right), Ogden School Teacher Fellow at the University of Warwick said "It was wonderful to see such keen and determined young people. Both The Ogden Trust and the Physics Department want to encourage and nurture that passion for physics."
