Visit to Diamond Light Source
A group of Ogden Science Officers (Dr Tracey Dickens, Dr Joanna Heaton, Dr Wai Yi Feng, Lorna Stevenson, and Ally Caldecote) accompanied by Chief Executive, Tim Simmons, attended an Oxfordshire Schools Physicists of the Year Awards evening on 11 February at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory at Didcot and visited the nearby Diamond Light Source the following morning.
Diamond Light Source is the UK national synchrotron facility, the most powerful in the World. Located in South Oxfordshire, it generates brilliant beams of light, from infra-red to X-rays, which are used in a wide range of applications, from structural biology through fundamental physics and chemistry to cultural heritage.
Plans are afoot to arrange for groups of Ogden scholars to visit the synchrotron later in the year.
