Ogden Science Education Research Fellow 2009 appointed by Royal Society
The first Royal Society Research Fellowship supported by The Ogden Trust has been awarded to Dr Wai Yi Feng, University of Cambridge. She will undertake research aimed at improving the quality of maths and science educational practice in the UK, focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) enrichment, and will hold her Fellowship for up to five years.
Dr Feng was educated at Weydon School, Farnham, Surrey and Farnham College and graduated in mathematics from the University of Oxford in 2003. She was awarded the Kathleen Major prize by St Hilda's College in 2001 for outstanding work in mathematics. From 2003 to 2009 she has been carrying out graduate study and research at the University of Cambridge, obtaining a PhD in Education and an MPhil in Educational Research. She has completed the Teaching Associate Programme at the University of Cambridge, is an Associate of the Higher Education Academy, a Masters supervisor and assessor, an undergraduate supervisor at Newnham College and a research consultant for the Millennium Mathematics Project. In 2008 she was commissioned by the Royal Society to undertake research for the Advisory Committee on Mathematics Education and has published two papers on Mathematics Enrichment. She has also been a UK Mathematics Trust Mentor and a STEMnet Ambassador.
Wai Yi looks forward to joining the community of Ogden scholars, researchers, science teachers and academics in October and she will also hold an Ogden Science Teaching Fellowship concurrently with her Royal Society Fellowship.
