Physics Teaching Fellowships awarded to Antarctic explorers
Roussel 'Capra' De Carvalho and Tim Miall will be sponsored by The Ogden Trust to participate in the Fuchs Foundation Antarctic Expedition in 2010.
Tim Miall (below) is Head of Physics at Twyford High School in Acton, London before which he spent four years with BAe Systems working on the Eurofighter Project. His project is called "Antarctica: Mars on Earth" and he will carry out experiments in the nearest conditions on earth that replicate Mars. As part of his expedition sponsorship, Tim has just completed the London 10K run in a penguin suit!
Roussel De Carvalho (below) is a physics teacher at Samuel Ward Arts & Technology College in Haverhill, Suffolk before which he taught at the Instituto Educacional Sao Judas Tadeu in his native Brazil, where he also attended the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. He will be researching the effects of ultraviolet radiation on the biosphere of the Antarctic and will be carrying out research on sunscreens.
