Science students hail hospital project
The William Harvey project based at the Durham and Darlington NHS Hospitals has produced its first "graduates" who are now studying A-levels. 96 year-10 students from 8 schools in the north-east have so far taken part in the two-year scheme which gives them experience as trainee health scientists and medical practitioners. One of the 2006-2008 cohort of William Harvey Scholars was Jennifer Corner of Woodham Community Technology College, Newton Aycliffe, Co Durham. Jennifer has now entered Yarm School on an Ogden Science Scholarship and is studying Physics, Maths, Biology and Chemistry at A-level; she is interested in becoming a paediatrician. The scheme has been jointly sponsored for its two-year pilot by The Ogden Trust and The Sutton Trust and will now continue, funded by the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust.
