Physicists of the year
Twenty-two gifted young physicists have been recognised at the 2011 Oxfordshire Physicist of Year awards ceremony. The sixth-form students, together with parents and teachers, were invited to the ceremony at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL), one of the foremost national scientific research laboratories in the UK, operated by the Science and Technology Facilities Council.
The students heard an inspiring talk about particle research at RAL from David Wark, followed by a lecture from Amy Tyndall, entitled: 'Surfing to the Stars'. Amy is from the University of Manchester and Isaac Newton Telescopes, La Palma.
Recipients of the Ogden Physicist of the Year award are eligible to apply for an Ogden undergraduate scholarship to support degree-level study in physics or a related subject.
