I can be a scientist

Carole Kenrick is Scientist / Inventor in Residence at Gillespie Primary School, London, and works part-time for The Ogden Trust supporting primary schools to set up Ogden Primary Partnerships. Last year she wrote an article for Teach Primary magazine (Edition 10.8) about the importance of developing ‘science capital’ in primary school, which research shows is crucial to encouraging more girls, black pupils and kids from lower socio-economic backgrounds to enter STEM professions. “Getting primary students and schools engaged in the physical sciences is incredibly important,” agrees Wendy Cox, Ogden Primary Science Lead. “It underpins the Ogden primary programme, which is focused on developing teaching resources and science teaching spaces, as well as supporting teachers with crucial CPD. Carole is an inspirational teacher, we are very fortunate that she has joined the Ogden Primary team.”
